As part of its programming recognizing the centennial of the Temescal Branch Library, local Sri Lankan-American novelist Nayomi Munaweera (What lies between us, 2016; Island of a thousand mirrors, 2012) will host a celebration of 100 years of immigration to the Temescal neighborhood, with Lauren Markham, author of The far away brothers : two young migrants and the making of an American life (Crown, 2017), some of Markham’s immigrant students at International High School. They will be joined by some of the more established immigrants to Temescal from the Horn of Africa (Eritrea & Ethiopia) and by descendants of the early Italian-American immigrant community. Presented in cooperation with the Italian American Federation.
