Introduction: “ARTematics: Learning Math & Geometry through Art” with Jr. Oakland Cubers

In this class, led by Velia & Roman of Jr. Oakland Cubers, methods and motifs of traditional art of the indigenous people of North America will be utilized to help participants grasp the the principles and wonders of mathematics as “the language of nature and the universe.” The class is recommended for youngsters eight years old and above. (A caretaker is required for children who are not yet eight years old.)

This one-hour introductory course will be followed in future months by two-hour sessions at noon on the first Saturday of every month.

Velia & Roman are a mother-son team, founders of the Jr. Oakland Cubers. Roman is a member of a New Mexico Pueblo community and his mother Velia is a professional graphic artists with heritage among the indigenous people of South America.

ARTematics is part of a year-long package of public presentations hosted at the Temescal Branch Library to help launch its second century of service to the public.
