Temescal Art Week is a week of art, made by and for the Temescal community. We believe creativity heals — and when we create together, we build a community that’s stronger, more resilient, and more whole.
Saturday, September 26th pm – A Temescal Art Week Preview – New World Mosaics – Burlap Café – 540 40th – starting at 11:00am – a one hour walking tour led by Don Lowrey and featuring Juan Lopez’s mosaic creations found on Telegraph Avenue’s refuse containers.
Saturday, October 3rd – Studio One Art Center – 365 45th St. – “Art Is Resilience” – 12pm – 6:00pm – Center Director Laura Placencia has organized hourly Art Talks, an Art Show with TACo Artists and many hands on activities – 12 pm – 6 pm – six hours of continuous programs for all ages!
Sunday, October 4th – Sacred Heart Catholic Church – 4025 Martin Luther King Boulevard – Art Show – 12pm – 4:00pm – Led by Carrie McLish, Sacred Heart Church opens its doors as their members, exhibit their stunning artwork for all to see with a show called “Celebrating the Season of Creation.”
Sunday, October 4th – Couchdate – 10am – 7:00pm – 5032 Telegraph……An interesting name and a very interesting place….Emmanuel has done a great job of gathering a potpourri of all things art for his Afro-Indo Market. Chai is a specialty but there’s a lot more than that…. . Listen to the music and look for the crowd outside. You are welcome anytime in the afternoon!
Sunday, October 4th – Root’d in 510 4444 Telegraph Hybrid Drag Show 6pm – 9pm – “Spooky Show” is being produced by Temescal local artists Ace Palomino and Cotton TheAct and staring several performers in a fun friendly showcase….it’ll be a great show!
Monday, October 5th – Burlap Café – 511 40th – 6:30AM To 3:00 PM -featuring four great Temescal Arts Community (TACo) artists – four in one! Marcela Smith, Davi Barker, Ashleigh Castro and JamieBe Real – Gabe will be happy to serve a good cup of coffee (try a mocha) and some tasty pastry while you in enjoy the artwork – the unofficial TACo annex – a happy place where our members exhibit their work – give yourself a treat!
Monday, October 5th – 4:00pm – 6pm 4521 Webster St. – Oakland International High School Student Art Show with a teen age artists by students from counties around the world– an interesting campus featuring scenic murals inside and outside the school building. – you’ll enjoy this interactive and cross cultural arts class activity.
Tuesday, October 6th – Temescal Library – 5205 Telegraph Avenue – lower level – Zentangle – 5:00pm – 7:45 pm – Visiting Artist Marlye Snow – will lead an easy to learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns……something for young and old
Tuesday, October 6th – Temescal Art Center – 511 48th– 7:00pm – Come to listen, to be heard, to see, to move, to celebrate and improvise. Everyone is welcome as a participant or audience member. The workshop is a playground for free improvisation at the Temescal Art Center – hosted by Lewis Jordan.
Wednesday, October 7th – 6pm – 8pm – Poems.n.Paper.- Interactive Collage Making – 4201 Telegraph Avenue – second floor – entrance on 42nd Street – TACo artists Christine Trowbridge, Davi Parker and Tami deSallier will teach and create colorful collages – you get to take yours home – fun for the whole family!
Thursday, October 8th – East Bay Creative Reuse Depot – 4pm-6pm – 4695 Telegraph Avenue – Executive Director Catherine Millar has a stocked Depot – enjoy an ecological treasure trove of art and craft materials, educational supplies, home décor, paper goods and fabric – there’s something for everyone.
Thursday, October 8th – 4691 Telegraph – Gabriel Escobar, owner of Tailor It, and his band, AJAYUZ play Adrea Bolivian music – 6pm-8pm – A Tailor by day and a musician by night – bringing freshness and clarity to the music of Bolivia on Telegraph Avenue.
Thursday, October 8th – 4290 Telegraph B – 6pm – 8pm – It’s Your Move – An artist talk by local illustrators of displayed puzzles and games sold by the store. Come and find out if art is a puzzle or a puzzle is art. Or both! An unforgettable evening.
Friday, October 9th – MacArthur Commons – 540 40th Street – 4pm – 6 pm – Interactive Textile Painting by Melina Finkelstein, interactive collage making with Davi Barker and Louis Libert – Come to be painted in your old clothes to paint someone else – fun with textiles!
Saturday, October 10th – East Bay Church of Religious Science – 4130 Telegraph Ave- 4:30pm – 7:30pm – Art Show – organized by Joannie Mitchell – plan to see several art installations – Maybe a little food and some very cool jazz, for sure!
