Pedestrian Lighting Construction Begins December 28th

Starting Monday, December 28th, the Temescal Telegraph Business Improvement District (BID) will be installing 10 more pedestrian lights on the East side of Telegraph Ave.

The Temescal Telegraph Business Improvement District (BID) will be installing 10 more pedestrian lights on the East side of Telegraph Ave. between 51st and Aileen Streets on the sidewalks to enhance safety and improve the pedestrian experience in Temescal.

Existing pedestrian lights were installed by the BID on Telegraph Ave from 40th St to 51st, on the West side of Telegraph from 51st to Aileen St, 40th St from Telegraph Ave to Broadway Ave, on Shattuck from 45th to 52nd St, and on Telegraph Ave from North St to Woolsey St.

The BID has hired Ray’s Electric as the contractor to install the lights. They are starting work on December 28th, and will install the lights over the next month according to the estimated schedule below.

Ray’s Electric and the city have already agreed upon the locations of the pedestrian lights, and have marked the selected locations in white paint on the sidewalks. During construction, there will be no disruption to vehicle traffic, and disruptions to sidewalk use will be minimized. However, to install the lights, the contractor will need to use some parking spots for short amounts of time.

The first phase of construction will start December 28th, and last for three weeks. During this time, the underground portion of the lights will be installed, and Ray’s Electric will need 2-3 parking spots per light (10 lights in total), for a couple days at a time, during Monday-Friday.

In mid-January, the above ground part of construction will commence to install the light poles and complete the construction. During the installation of the light poles, Ray’s Electric will need 2-3 parking spots per pole, for one day. The installation of the light poles is estimated to take three days in total.

The specific parking spots needed for construction each day will be marked with a no parking sign, and will be unavailable for parking. All other spots on that block will be available for parking.
